When your managed app needs state, ngris can provision a managed database for it: a dedicated MariaDB (fully MySQL-compatible) tied to that app. Managed databases are available on paid plans.
How it works
- Each app that enables a managed database gets its own dedicated MariaDB — it is not shared between apps.
- ngris injects the connection string into your app as the
DATABASE_URLenvironment variable, so your code reads it the same way it would anywhere else. - It is MySQL-compatible, so existing MySQL/MariaDB drivers and ORMs work without a new vendor SDK. There is no second database vendor to sign up for.
Connect from your backend
Read DATABASE_URL from the environment at startup — for example:
# Your app receives DATABASE_URL automatically, e.g.
# mysql://{user}:{password}@{host}:3306/{database}
echo "$DATABASE_URL"
Point your MySQL/MariaDB client or ORM at that URL and run your migrations as usual.
Backups
Managed databases are covered by application backups, so you can back up and restore the database (and your app content) on a schedule where your plan allows it.
